On the south side of King Street, between Berkeley and Ontario, stood the famous old "Jordan's York Hotel" shown in the accompanying print. For many years in the beginning of the nineteenth century it was the most fashionable inn in Upper Canada and members of Parliament and many distinguished members of Parliament and many distinguished visitors appreciated its luxurious quarters. Fashionable assemblies and public dinners were held in its miniature ballroom and dining room and following the burning of the Parliament Buildings in 1813, by the invading American army, the Parliament of Upper Canada held its session of 1814 at Jordan's.
